Where to find and how to farm sulfur in Palworld

Sulfur in Palworld is mined from yellow sulfur boulders. They spawn in two biomes — the northeastern desert and the volcanic region — and also turn up inside dungeons. Break a boulder with a pickaxe or, far faster, drop a Pal with the Mining skill onto it. Any pickaxe works, but a metal one breaks rock noticeably faster. You'll need sulfur constantly from the mid-game on, so it pays to learn the good spots early.

Every known surface deposit is plotted on our sulfur map — toggle the layer, find the nearest cluster and set a route. And to stop fetching it by hand, build a base right on a deposit (more on that below).

The early, safe pick is the northeastern desert next to the Anubis alpha boss. Sulfur boulders are scattered all around, enemies are sparse, and a nearby fast-travel point makes hauling easy — you can farm it at mid levels.

The richest source is the volcanic region around Mount Obsidian: sulfur rocks stand in large clusters and fill your inventory in a single trip. The downside is the heat and aggressive fire Pals, so bring heat-resistant gear, healing and a fighter; a cooling Pal on your team cancels the heat damage. Sulfur also drops from boulders inside dungeons. Exact spots are on the sulfur map — we mark surface veins only, so cave and dungeon deposits aren't included.

Mining speed scales directly with a Pal's Mining skill level — the higher it is, the faster rock breaks. A great starter is Digtoise: ride it and its drill chews through stone much faster than a pickaxe. The all-rounder Anubis pairs mining with handiwork, so it's useful both in the field and at base. In the late game the top miner is Astegon with the highest mining tier.

You can raise a Pal's skill level by condensing it and by adding mining passives — a boosted miner brings back noticeably more sulfur in the same time. Not sure who to assign? The base planner picks the best miners from your Paldeck and tells you who's worth catching or breeding.

The comfiest way to farm sulfur is a dedicated resource base. Build a camp right on a cluster of sulfur boulders in the desert or by the volcano, assign two or three mining Pals and place a chest — sulfur stacks up on its own while you do other things. Keep one base as home and turn the rest into resource farms. Don't cram in too many workers at once: make sure there are enough chests for the sulfur and beds to rest, or your Pals tire out and output drops.

At higher levels you unlock the Sulfur Mine building — it produces sulfur at base with no natural deposits, you just assign a worker Pal. That removes the desert-and-volcano dependency for good: you can farm sulfur wherever it's convenient.

Sulfur's main purpose is Gunpowder. The recipe is simple: 2 Charcoal + 1 Sulfur at a High Quality Workbench. Gunpowder is the base of every firearm in the game.

Gunpowder crafts ammo for handguns, rifles and machine guns, plus explosives such as frag grenades. Early on, gunpowder goes into coarse ammo and makeshift weapons; closer to the endgame it feeds high-tier rounds, rockets and grenade launchers.
