High Quality Pal Oil and Polymer: How to Get Them

High Quality Pal Oil is a guaranteed (100%) drop from a handful of Pals when you defeat or catch them. Big beasts and dragons give the most in one go — Mammorest drops 5–10 at a time. The most convenient method, though, is passive: put a Dumud on a Ranch and it produces the oil on its own while you get on with other things.

Polymer is refined from that oil at the Production Assembly Line with a simple recipe: 2 High Quality Pal Oil → 1 Polymer. The Polymer tech unlocks in the tech tree at around level 33. Below we cover where to get the oil, who to park on the Ranch, and what Polymer is actually for.

Every Pal listed here drops the oil at a 100% rate, so the question of where to get High Quality Pal Oil really just comes down to who's easiest to fight. The biggest single hauls come from large boss-beasts: Mammorest and its icy form Mammorest Cryst drop 5–10 each. Then come the dragons: Xenogard (3–5), Quivern (3), Relaxaurus (up to 4), plus Elphidran and Jormuntide Ignis (2–3 each).

For an easier, earlier option, several low-level Pals drop 1–3 oil apiece: Grintale, Woolipop, Flambelle and Dumud itself. Note that the oil drops on capture too, not just on defeat, so hunting for it fills out your Paldex along the way. The most relaxed way to stock up is Dumud. It produces High Quality Pal Oil while assigned to a Ranch: catch one, drop it on the pasture, and it'll pile oil into your storage while you explore. Build the Ranch early (it unlocks at low levels), and remember that Dumud — like any worker — needs food from storage now and then.

The golden variant, Dumud Gild, also produces Gold Coins on the Ranch, so it effectively works double duty. Keep one or two Dumud at base and you'll have a solid oil stash ready by the time you need Polymer. Making Polymer is dead simple: it's refined oil, and the recipe is just 2 High Quality Pal Oil = 1 Polymer. First unlock the Polymer technology in the tech tree (around level 33), then build a Production Assembly Line — which unlocks a little earlier, near level 28.

Each unit takes a fair bit of work time, so it's best to place the line off to the side and let it run in the background, with a Handiwork Pal assigned to speed it up. At higher levels the faster Production Assembly Line II becomes available. Finished Polymer stacks up to 9,999, so it's worth batching a big supply in advance.

Polymer is a key late-game crafting material and the main reason to farm oil. Its biggest use is firearms: the Assault Rifle, single-shot and semi-auto rifles, shotguns, SMGs and the Rocket Launcher. The stronger the gun, the more Polymer it needs, so a steady oil supply directly unlocks the best weapons in the game.
