Where to find and how to get Hardwood in Palworld

Updated: 2026-07-13

What Hardwood is and where to get it

Hardwood is a new resource in the 1.0 patch and a key mid-to-late-game material. You can't chop it from ordinary trees — those give plain Wood, while Hardwood only comes from special large trees in a few biomes. There are four ways to get it: chopping special trees by hand, drops from certain Pals, buying from merchants, and auto-farming at your base.

For the full recipe and usage breakdown see the item page — Hardwood. Below is where to farm it fastest.

Which trees and biomes to chop

The most convenient source is the pink cherry-blossom trees on Sakurajima Island (northwest of the map). They grow in a dense grove around the Secluded Cemetery and Dancing Sakura Shrine fast-travel points — teleport in (both show on the map) and chop away. An earlier option is the twisted spiky trees in the Twilight Dunes desert, northeast of the Anubis arena; they're reachable before Sakurajima. There are also many rough trees on Feybreak Island, growing in clusters that are easy to farm without moving.

⚠️ Don't confuse this with the World Tree region: its trees give Mythical Wood, not Hardwood — a different resource. And not every tree in these zones counts: chop the large special trees (sakura, spiky desert, rough Feybreak ones), not the ordinary ones.

Which axe to use and the best lumbering Pals

No special axe is required: Hardwood is chopped by any axe from the Stone Axe up. A higher-tier axe (Metal, Refined Metal, Pal Metal) only gives faster chopping and more durability, not more wood per tree — the yield per tree is fixed. Don't trust guides claiming an axe 'yields more wood': that's a myth.

Speed matters far more via a lumbering Pal, ridden or at base. The best lumberjack in the game is Celesdir Noct with Lumbering level 8; next come Celesdir and Hartalis (level 7). Early on, the accessible Tanzee helps. Not sure who to assign? The base planner picks the best lumberjacks from your Paldeck.

Pal drops, buying and auto-farming

Hardwood drops at 100% from the grass Pals Mossanda, Mossanda Lux, Wumpo Botan and Palumba — you can catch or fight them for wood. It's also sold for about 100 gold by the village shop, the wandering trader and the desert and volcano stores (stock varies).

To stop fetching it by hand, build a Logging Site II at base and assign a Pal with high Lumbering — wood stacks up on its own. It's worth stockpiling: Hardwood goes into dozens of recipes, including Legendary Spheres, high-tier weapons and Japanese-style buildings.
