How to Increase Your Pal Capture Rate in Palworld
Updated: 2026-07-14
The short answer
Your capture chance in Palworld is the sum of several levers, and you control all of them. Bring a stronger sphere, whittle the Pal's HP down to almost nothing, throw at its back, land a status effect (sleep, freeze, paralysis), hit it with an element it's weak to, and raise your capture power in advance with Lifmunk Effigies. Stack these and the displayed chance climbs toward 100%.
Not sure you have enough spheres? Drop the Pal, the sphere and its remaining HP into our capture calculator — it estimates the percentage and tells you how many throws to pack.
Bring a stronger sphere
The higher the sphere tier, the more catch power it carries. The line runs from the basic Pal Sphere up through the Mega, Giga, Hyper and Ultra Spheres to the Legendary Sphere, then the Ultimate Sphere and Exotic Sphere; version 1.0 added the strongest of all, the Sol Sphere and Ancient Sphere. Save the heavy spheres for rare, high-level Pals and don't waste them on weaklings — but don't cling to old spheres against tough targets either. Aim carefully, too — a miss or a bounce-off wastes the sphere.
Better spheres unlock in the technology tree as you level up, and they're crafted mostly from Paldium Fragments, so keep a stockpile — paldium quickly becomes the bottleneck. Early spheres are cheap, but late-game Pals eat too many of them, so investing in an upgrade pays off.
Knock HP into the red
The lower a target's HP, the higher your odds — the percentage on the sphere jumps as the bar slips into the red. So fight first, catch second, and chip away with a weak weapon or a low-damage Pal if you're worried about overkill. Alphas and bosses have huge HP pools, so pack extra spheres and status effects for them.
Just don't overdo it: drop the Pal to zero and it faints — you'll get its drops, but you can no longer capture it. Leave a thin sliver of health.
Throw at the back, apply status, exploit elements
A back throw gives a clear boost and bounces off far less often (players estimate roughly up to +20%, scaling with the Pal's level), so circle behind the target before you throw.
Status effects help even more and stack together: a sleeping Pal is much easier to catch (sleep is often called the best status for this), freeze is the strongest elemental setup, and paralysis or stun add to the odds too. And many wild Pals sleep at night anyway — sneak up quietly and catch them for a free sleep bonus.
Hit the Pal with an element it's weak to to drain HP faster, and ice moves will freeze the target on top of that. That way a single action both fights smarter and preps the catch.
Capture power: collect Lifmunk Effigies
Lifmunk Effigies are glowing green figurines scattered across the whole island. Turn them in at the Statue of Power to permanently raise your capture power: every level improves all of your throws (the current version goes up to 15 levels).
Start collecting early — the effect compounds. There are hundreds of effigies in the world, far more than you need to max out, so mark and grab them as you travel. Every spot is on the map.
Check the exact chance
The real capture formula is baked into the game engine and isn't officially published, so eyeballing it is hard. Our capture calculator combines sphere, remaining HP, capture power and status into a ballpark percentage — handy for deciding whether to weaken the Pal further or just throw.
And if you play your own world, you can tilt the odds in the settings too: the Pal Capture Rate slider, set at world creation, raises your base chance directly.
