Best Mounts in Palworld: Flying, Ground and Water Pals
Updated: 2026-07-07
What is the best mount in Palworld?
Short answer: the best all-round mount is Jetragon, the fastest flying pal in the game. Its "missile launcher" saddle only unlocks at level 50, so earlier flyers carry you until then. On land nothing beats the legendary Necromus and Paladius for run speed, and on water Jormuntide is the best pick for almost any situation.
Which type should you pick? A flying mount is almost always the most convenient — it ignores mountains, rivers and cliffs and saves a huge amount of travel time. Ground mounts shine in combat and caves, water mounts let you cross the ocean and reach the oil rigs fast. Full speed rankings live in our mount tier lists.
Best flying pals in Palworld
The first real flyer is Nitewing: its saddle unlocks as early as level 15 and you can catch it in the starting regions. It's the best answer to "which pal should I fly on" in the early game. Mid-game, switch to the electric Beakon, the nocturnal Helzephyr or the fiery Ragnahawk — all noticeably faster and useful around the base too.
Heading into the endgame, the best wings are Faleris and the legendary Frostallion (slightly slower than Jetragon but a monster in a fight). The undisputed speed champion is Jetragon — it accelerates like an actual rocket and leaves everything behind. Compare them all and see the live ranking on the flying mounts page.
Best ground pals in Palworld
The earliest fast ride is Direhowl (saddle at level 9) — a great start until flyers open up. After that grab Rayhound or Fenglope: both are quick and can double-jump, and Fenglope roams Mount Obsidian, so you can get it by mid-game.
The kings of the land are the legendary Necromus and Paladius: Necromus has the highest run speed of any ground mount plus a double jump from its "Dark Knight of the Abyss" skill. If you want a combat ride, look at Blazehowl with its flamethrower or Grizzbolt with its minigun — they carry you and shoot. The full list is in the ground mounts tier list.
Best water pals in Palworld
The most accessible water mount is Surfent (its saddle needs only level 10). But the one that truly swims fast — and without draining stamina — is Jormuntide, the best water pal for any situation. Only Neptilius, the fastest swimmer in the game, beats it in a straight line.
Solid alternatives are Suzaku Aqua and Azurobe: slower, but easier to obtain around the mid levels. The full ranking of water mounts is in the water mounts tier list.
When saddles unlock and how to ride
Catching a pal isn't enough to ride it — you also need to craft its saddle. The recipe unlocks in the tech tree once you hit the required level and costs technology points. Early saddles are cheap and low-level: Direhowl at 9, Surfent at 10, Eikthyrdeer at 12, Nitewing at 15.
Top mounts take patience: Ragnahawk's saddle unlocks at level 37, Jormuntide's at 39, Necromus and Paladius at 49, and Jetragon gets a "Missile Launcher" instead of a saddle at 50. Every saddle and its level is listed under technology; once you build the saddle at a workbench, equip it from the pal's menu and summoning it will put you straight in the saddle.
How to get the best mounts
Most top-tier mounts are alpha bosses out in the world. Jetragon lives in the volcanic region, Necromus and Paladius appear at night in the desert lands, and Frostallion guards the frozen north. Their spawn points are easy to find on the map and in the boss catalog.
Legendaries are easier to catch with higher-tier spheres — the capture calculator helps you estimate the odds. An alternative to catching is breeding: many strong mounts can be bred, which is sometimes faster than farming a boss. Match the ride to the job — wings for the roads, paws for the fight, fins for the ocean.
