Best Base Worker Pals & Automation in Palworld

Best base Pals in Palworld: the short answer

If you want one all-rounder, grab Anubis: Handiwork 4 plus Mining 3 already covers half of your base. After that, slot a specialist into each job: ore — Astegon and Digtoise; kindling and smelting — Jormuntide Ignis; lumbering — Celesdir; watering — Jormuntide; electricity — Orserk; medicine — Lyleen.

Don't want to memorize all of it? Open the base planner — it picks the best working Pals for every skill from your own Paldex. For the full scored ranking, see the worker tier list.

Mining ore and work suitability levels

Every job has a suitability level from 1 to 4: the higher it is, the faster the Pal works and the tougher the resources it can handle. The key ore rule: a Pal needs Mining level 2+ to touch an ore vein and level 3+ for coal, so a level-1 worker won't mine ore at all.

The best mining Pals are Astegon (level 4), Anubis (3, with top-tier handiwork too) and the famous Digtoise (3) — its drill partner skill smashes rock and ore even while you ride it. Solid alternatives are Reptyro (Mining 3 and Kindling 3) and Menasting (3). Early on, Penking and Dumud (both 2) work fine, and Rushoar at least handles stone.

Not sure where to dig? Check the interactive map of iron and coal veins.

Handiwork, kindling and smelting: the crafting chain

Handiwork is the heart of crafting: nobody beats Anubis (level 4) at a workbench, with Selyne and Splatterina (also 4) right behind. An accessible early pick is Wixen (Handiwork 3).

Kindling powers the furnace, where ore becomes ingots. The best stokers are Jormuntide Ignis (4) and Blazehowl (3), while Arsox (2) covers the early game. Note that oversized Pals like Jormuntide Ignis sometimes get stuck on structures — a smaller worker at the same furnace can actually be more efficient.

That is how the automatic chain forms: a miner digs ore → a stoker smelts it in the furnace → Anubis at the bench turns the ingots into gear. All you do is collect the results from the chest.

Wood, water, electricity and medicine

Lumbering: the top lumberjack is Celesdir (level 4), a strong mid-tier is Bushi (3), and early on Eikthyrdeer and Mossanda (both 2) pull their weight. Watering your plots is handled by Jormuntide (4) and Broncherry Aqua (3).

Electricity feeds the power generator and assembly lines: the best is Orserk (4), the reliable go-to is Grizzbolt (3), and Univolt (2) is enough early. Medicine (healing sick Pals and brewing meds) rests on Lyleen (3) and Sibelyx (2).

Worker passives and base automation

Passives matter as much as the skill level. The most valuable for a worker is Artisan (+50% work speed). It pairs beautifully with Work Slave (+30% work speed at the cost of attack — a plus for a pure laborer), Serious (+20%) and Lucky (+15%). To fight burnout, look for Workaholic, Positive Thinker or Heart of the Immovable King (sanity drops slower), while Diet Lover trims appetite. You'll find every effect on the passive skills page.

Base automation rests on three things: the right workers, support and upkeep. Build a Beta Wave Generator to speed up every Pal's work and an Alpha Wave Generator to restore sanity, and keep food and beds stocked, since a tired Pal works poorly. You can breed a perfect worker with the passives you want via breeding, and every work and active skill is documented in the skills section.
